Peace in the home

Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!"

Some families are loving, supportive and kind, while others seem to be hateful, inconsiderate and unkind, what is it that seems to be the difference. To over simplify may be incorrect, yet for those that observe these matters the common denominator is either selfishness and disrespect or selflessness and respect. When members of a family live to please themselves it results in the negativity.

Often over Christmas these tendencies become more observable and results in families coming together to eat and party and when selfishness raises its head with the accompanying disrespect for desert, arguments are inevitable. Christmas is a reminder that God loves us and as a result gave us Jesus. Jesus is the perfect example of putting another person first, to respect that person no matter what, and so bring the joy of unity in all. In the same way we should strive to do the same.

Be encouraged today to be respectful and selfless.

God exists

Hebrews 11:5-6 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was attested as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

With God all things are possible, but with man many things are impossible. It is impossible for us to please men, no matter what we do there will always be somebody that has some criticism, or a bad attitude no matter how good our intentions. Yet we are drawn to please others and so build up a positive image of ourselves based on how we please others, no matter how impossible it may be.

Yet when it comes to God it is possible to please Him, we please God by believing that He exists and He rewards us when we seek Him. It is that simple. As we live we need to ask ourselves, ‘are we pleasing God by doing what we do, by saying what we say?’ When we make a decision do we consider whether the consequence of that decision will please God? It is bringing God foremost in what we do that allows us to seek Him, to seek Him in every thing that is who we are.

Be encouraged today to believe God exists and that we live to please Him.

What has God promised you?

Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What are the promises for you that you find in the Bible? It is these promises made that clarifies the will of God for you. Now these promises have been made and have already been fulfilled, all we have to do is claim and proclaim them in our lives.

This does not mean that we will not be challenged or that we will never have problems nor crisis’s what is does mean is that in these do we claim and proclaim them as if they had already happened. These promises are given to us so that we understand that God has already provided according to His word. The question is you either believe it and living it, or you don’t. When we do not we simply live in unbelief not believing the promises of God.

So when things go wrong where do we turn to the world and its therapies or to God and His promise for you? When we believe God we are more than conquerors.

Christmas Marketing

Luke 2:10-11 And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

For many Christians it is accepted that Jesus was not born on the 25^th of December, having said that it does not stop them from remembering the night He was born of the virgin Mary and of His early life in a manger. Just as then as it is now many people around the world have no room in their hearts for Him. When we look around us with the marketing in shops and TV we see clearly almost no reference to Jesus Christ other than the word Christmas. Teddy bears and Santa now dominate, and the real joy of the true Christmas message is lost to the world.

When we in our preparation for this holy and special time, remembering that God came in the form of little Baby boy, born to Mary, so that He may bring salvation to us and overcome death for us, we need to mindful of this time. It is so sad that the Church and the people of the Church have been silenced by the world at this time. Yet we have our voice which is able to still sing carols and bring true joy to others through the Gospel.

Be encouraged to bring Jesus back into Christmas, its His birthday party after all.

Kingdom Prayer

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.

When people are used to getting their own way, they tend to do what pleases them and then expect everyone else to be happy with what they have done. This often results in them making decisions in the same way resulting in the repetition of the result. When the result is pleasing to them, they will just use the same principle, when the result is not pleasing they will always rationalise and place the blame elsewhere.

It is strange how many people who have almost no relationship with Jesus will still want prayer in regards to a decision, make the decision anyway, and then say when it has a bad result that the cannot understand what went wrong because they ‘prayed’. When we chase dreams and look for our prosperity in and through the world, we cannot expect Jesus to bless what will be eventually harmful to us and our families. So we pray before we decide, we pray before we need an answer, we first seek a relationship with Jesus. Jesus is not Someone to take for granted and to bless us without first seeking His will for us.

Be encouraged today to be in a prayer relationship with Jesus.

Luke 6:37-38 "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."

To love someone in the name of Jesus Christ is not the same as to love a family member or even sometimes a like minded church member. To love some one as Jesus would allows us to see them as Jesus would and not as we want to. So when a person is a Buddhist we do not condemn them and their family because that is what the belief they were born into, no we simply lead them to Jesus showing them the love that Jesus has for them and the Bible.

Far to often we judge and criticise others with an expectation that in doing so they will conform to our ways, and we believe that our way is the only way. Yet Jesus is Shepherd to many sheep and not all sheep are the same or even have the same needs. So when we want to love some one in the name of Jesus we must listen first to the voice of the Shepherd and not the sheep.

Be encouraged to love others as Jesus would not as you would like.

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, men who will not acknowledge the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh; such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Somebody said to me yesterday that Jesus Christ was an alien, now this at first offended me as I am sure it would offend you. But coming to think about it from the point of view of world opinion not only is Jesus alien to the ways of the world but so am I. We are in this world but not of this world.

There are also those that describe God as a genderless being, ethereal and entirely without form, allowing an individual to describe God as they may choose. Yet strikingly enough throughout the Bible God is described in the masculine, Jesus Christ is fully man, flesh and blood man, circumcised on the eight day. He died as a man and was resurrected in the body that was crucified with all the wounds, He ate and slept, with the disciples after He was resurrected. He was fully man and He was fully God, when we see God as a Christian we see Jesus Christ. For if you see Jesus, you see the Father. Yet God is also Spirit, the Holy Spirit and it is this Spirit that dwells in man, making man one with the Father and with the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit. United and one as God is one.
