John 8:31-32 Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
People talk about freedom, but very few actually understand what it is to be free. In reality most people in this country are financial slaves to the economy in some way or the other, almost no one is able to survive without earning a living or receiving a grant or handout. True freedom is the freedom of the mind, emotional freedom, spiritual freedom, a freedom that is not bound in politics or our situation but a freedom that comes from the realisation that we are slaves to no one, because We have been redeemed by God, He has paid our ransom.
I remember the day I became debt free, free from an employer, free to feel and live as God has called me to, what a joy, what an experience. When we celebrate freedom day, we celebrate a human understanding of supposedly political freedom, yet looking at politics and the economy is freedom ever truly possible without Jesus Christ?
Be encouraged today to celebrate the freedom that Jesus has given you.
David
Point to ponder: God sets us free.
Question to consider: Are you free?

Faithful
25 April 2012
Psalms 26:3 For thy steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in faithfulness to thee.
Unfaithfulness is often understood in a marriage terms where a spouse has an affair with a third party, yet unfaithfulness is more than that. A person who is unfaithful betrays the trust, the loyalty and honour of the person that they are unfaithful too. So a person that distrusts another is actually unfaithful to that person, especially if that distrust is based on perceptions rather than facts.
We claim that God is always faithful, and we require Him to be so because it is those grounds that we remain loyal, and trust Him and honour Him. When we respond to God in ways that does not reflect our trust, loyalty and honour for Him we are actually unfaithful towards Him. God is faithful so we respond by being faithful to Him. When we have faith in God then we believe God.
Be encouraged today to remain faithful to our faithful God.

Point to ponder: God is always faithful- it is His very Nature.

Hope
24 April 2012
Romans 5:3-5 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.
For many people they live their lives without actually taking the time to think about spiritual things, they are living busy lives, work, home, entertainment, holidays whatever is the focus on seeking pleasure and security. Almost no thought is given to God or Godly things in a day, although every now and again a thought may rise in the mind, a twinge and then the busyness of business suppresses it. Yet, they do not realise that all that they have and all that they have is because of the love that God has for them, through His grace to all common men.
For others they live their lives in covenant with God, knowing that even if they fail, God will not fail them, for God has promised to them that He will never leave nor forsake them. This relationship with God is not based on materialism, but on the understanding of God’s promises to God’s people and then believing these despite all worldly opposition. Yesterday may have been a total failure, today is filled with the consequences of that failure, but tomorrow is filled with hope as we know that we over come the past. The past does not determine the future, we do through the hopes and plans that we have for all our tomorrows.
Be encouraged today to live with hope in your heart.

Struggles
23 April 2012
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Part of life’s struggle is made up with the struggle in our minds, it is when we know what we should do, yet struggle to do it that we run the risk of doing the wrong things. This struggle is also based on passed learnt behaviour which in a way controls our thinking and so controls our belief systems. When in the struggle we believe we cannot do it, then this will actually prevent us from doing it.
In order to change the way we think we need to process in our minds what we believe. What we believe about life, about ourselves in relation to our life, and starting to understand the truth of what we believe. Though we may enjoy the fat on our biltong, we know that this is unhealthy, so we eat biltong without the fat, we know that when we cannot say no, we are hooked into an unhealthy lifestyle.
In order to win the battle of the mind, we need to renew our mind, ignoring the old and only using that which is renewed. Once I did things that way, but now I do things this way, because I have changed the way I think and so my goals change accordingly.
Be encouraged today to stop dwelling on the struggle but to change your thinking.
David
Point to ponder: What you think determines what you believe.
Question to consider: This time next year will you be facing the same struggle?

Integrity
20 April 2012
1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.
To have integrity is something to be cherished and nurtured, a person who has integrity is honest, trustworthy, loyal, kind and understanding. To do business with people who have integrity is always open and honest, guarantees hold value, costs are up front and you know you do not have to look for a better price, because a person with integrity has your interests in mind. This does not mean that you are not business minded, or putting others first at the cost of your business, it means that your integrity is priceless and of such value that you protect it at all times.
In this society today the driving factor is money and profit, and today’s deal is more important than business integrity, turnover and profit margins drive people to ignore the ethics and so allow corruption to enter into their thinking. We look at corruption in high places and condemn this, yet we participate in this when we become self-seeking and profiteer out of others. In a country that is corrupt, honest people become scarce, so each of us should place a value of our integrity above that of making money and using people to do so in the process.
Be encouraged today to realise your integrity is priceless, a jewel in God’s garden.
David
Point to ponder: Your integrity is God’s jewel, do not tarnish it.

Blood clot
19 April 2012
Psalms 38:9 Lord, all my longing is known to thee, my sighing is not hidden from thee.
Life has its ups and its downs, and sometimes in some situations little crisis’s can become issues. How we respond to these depends on our ability to place our trust in those around us who care for us and in so doing also place our trust in God. On Monday I went to have a check up with the Doctor that did the knee replacement and the wound is healing well, my bending and stretching is on track. Before I could go home however I had to have a ‘doppler’ exam on the veins in my leg and they found a clot in the vein in my calf. Immediately I was hospitalised and put on treatment for deep vein thrombosis, this treatment will continue for some time to come.
What was the lesson? I had done all that was required of me, why did this happen, why me? I understand that nothing happens without a purpose and in this purpose I see the hand of God leading them to find the clot. If they had not, what then? I also now have such empathy and understanding of the fear of death, and the great faith one has to put ones life in the hands of God in absolute trust. It is easy to preach it but hard to do.
Be encouraged today to see God’s hand in all situations, both what we may see as good or bad.
David
Point to ponder: Trust God.
Question to consider: When life is challenged, how do you respond?
