Teach the Childen

24 February 2011

Deuteronomy 4:9-10 "Only take heed, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; make them known to your children and your children's children-- how on the day that you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, the LORD said to me, 'Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children so.'

This morning all the swallows were on the telephone lines, gathered together and obviously getting ready to travel back to Europe, where they will spend our winter there. The grass is seeding and the oranges are swelling and starting to ripen. Although we may still be thinking it is summer because of the hot weather, nature knows that autumn is here and in two months the trees would have dropped their leaves.

Time moves on and seasons come and seasons go, sometimes we do not recognise the season we are in until the season has passed. One day we have babies, the next they are having babies, generations come and generations go. Yet the one constant is that God remains the same for each generation, and each generation needs to come to know God, we all have a responsibility to teach our children about the God we believe in. This role is not that of the church, but that of the father of his children, and the best way to teach is by example. Men are the role model and they need to understand their role. As parents and elders in our community what are we teaching the next generation?

Be encouraged today to teach the children about Jesus Christ.

David

Point to ponder: God is known in each generation.

Question to consider:  Do you teach your children about God?
