Matthew 24:6-9 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: all this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs. "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.
The day will always have its worries and concerns, sometimes these are confined to our own situation, but occasionally it includes those regarding events that will have an impact on us. We look at the TV and the Joburg bus drivers are on strike, because they refuse to comply with the shift roster. Yet when we look at world events we see how ridiculous it is to strike over an issue like this, when they have a job and the freedom to work. By striking and hurting others they take away the civil rights of others, and so add to the concerns of the community. The lack of willingness to resolve the issue may result in a change of municipal government in the voting later this year, because the ruling party refuses to get involved to resolve the problem.
In Egypt the revolution has only started, in that the President has resigned and the Army is in control, in Tunisia there is revolt, in Iran there are riots, in Palestine there are rumblings of dissent. We watch these events and we realise that something is happening which has a deeper consequence than we realise. In China the wheat growing area is devastated by the worse drought in sixty years, the Australian wheat growing area has been destroyed by floods, the impact is that wheat prices are sky rocketing.
Just in these two issues the inflation impact will be devastating in regard to oil and bread, the result is famine among the poor nations. From the Biblical perspective Jesus warned us of these things and assured us that no matter what happens in this world, He will always be with us to the end of time.
Be encouraged today to take heart and to know that Jesus is with you.
David
Point to ponder: Jesus promised He will always be with us.
Question to consider: Do you worry about tomorrow?
