Acts 11:25-26 So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul; and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch . For a whole year they met with the church, and taught a large company of people; and in Antioch the disciples were for the first time called Christians.
In the last few days we have had a flock of gorgeous shrike’s coming to visit us at Linga Longa, they keep up with their name! The are mainly green with an orange to red chest, with the top of their head being a bluish shade of light grey, their beaks are long. They swoop around catching insects, and then sit on the fence seeming to say, ‘watch me I’ll do it again’ down they swoop and do it again.
In most things we realise that they live up to their name, a gorgeous shrike can only be a what it is. So how we name things, will determine how we respond and they respond, a spider is a spider and it can only be the best spider it can be. So when we call people names, we then expect them to act according to the name we give them, and they usually do. When we call a person horrible or ugly, they will respond accordingly, and this although a generalisation, generally this proves itself to be true. When we call people in the positive this is also true, so for you and I that are called Christian, we can only be a Christian, and we can only do what Christians do, we may not always do it perfectly, but we do it to the best we can do.
So be encouraged today to live up to your name ‘Christian’.
David
Point to ponder: We are called Christian ‘the anointed of Jesus Christ’
Question to consider: Do you live up to your name?
