World Cup

9 September 2011

Corinthians I 9:25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.

The Rugby World Cup is starting today with the opening ceremony and then all the games and support that follows ending with the World Cup Final. For the players involved this would have been a goal that they set themselves to one day play in the Rugby World Cup. This did not happen overnight but has taken years of training and playing the game, many injuries and disappointments, but also success in winning and achieving.

In the same way being a Christian starts at a beginning, for some it begins in a Christian home growing up believing in Jesus Christ and following His ways set by example of the parents, for others it is when Christ meets and finds them and they follow Him. In both cases it is the way we train and participate as Christians that depends on where we end, many people instead of playing the game end up becoming spectators. Most spectators know how the game is played, will be able to judge all the penalties, yet they do very little when it comes to the game itself. So we see the same thing happening in the Church, people sitting in the pews as spectators, while others are actually playing the Christian game, instead of just watching and criticising. For most of us we need to ask the question of ourselves, are we spectators or players, and if we are players do we play to please the crowd or to win for our heavenly kingdom.

Be encouraged today to be a in the game for Jesus Christ.

David

Point to ponder: We are not called to be spectators.

Question to consider: Are you a Christian spectator or are you actually in the Christian game?
