Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Routine and discipline go hand in hand, in order for a person to live a disciplined life, routines have to be established and kept. This in a way seems to impact on the principle of works versus faith, yet it is in the routine and discipline that faith is built up which then results in good works. It is important to have patterns in life, a pattern of getting up with the intention to start the day, preparing for the day ahead, and setting goals to reinforce the disciplined life; whether one resides in community, in family or alone this is still an important aspect to all.
Yet we should within this routine and discipline be able to exercise flexibility so that the routine does not dominate, but within the routine the freedom to be who are must be allowed. Where there is no routine or discipline chaos reigns, so if we want God to reign in our lives, we bring about an order into our day through routine and discipline. So a regular day to do the washing and ironing is important, time set aside for bible study and prayer, going to church, spending quality time with loved ones is all part of a life of routine and discipline. When we stop doing this and put enjoyment above these, we end up with chaos, untidy homes, and even untidy minds.
Be encouraged to establish and keep a routine and discipline.
Point to ponder: Without discipline one cannot be a disciple.
Question to consider: Do you have a routine and discipline?
