2 Samuel 11:27 And when the mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
When we understand that we sometimes do things that displeases the Lord, and yet even though we do this we still in a way expect the Lord to bless us. So we may think it does not matter to tell a little white lie, or to sneak a peek at something we should not be looking at, or have lustful thoughts about something or someone, but to God it means a lot and it displeases Him. In the case of David and Bethshe’ba their infidelity, adultery cost the life of their son, because what David did displeased God. David pleaded that God would spare him, and God did.
If we think of ourselves and the people around us and we ask ourselves if that what is being done displeases God, we may find ourselves rethinking what we do. We need to be careful about what we do, because all we do has consequences and often we forget that these consequences are born by our children. The blessings of the parents are born by the children and in the same way when we displease God, His displeasure may be imposed on that which we love, especially our children. So we should be far more conscious of the holiness and power of God than what we usually are. We should have an awesome respect for God, because He holds our futures in His hand.
Be encouraged today not seek God’s displeasure, but seek the righteousness of His kingdom on earth.
David

As far as my sins being visited upon my children, I take great solace in Jeremiah 31:26-36. Particularly 29-30!
