Romans 12:9-10 Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor.
How would one define a relationship? In our lives we all have different types of relationships and each of these meets a need we find within ourselves. We do not always understand these needs clearly so we will end up in relationships that do not meet these and the result is that we start to look for someone else or try to change that persons relationship with us to meet that need. All relationships that we have are emotionally linked to a need that we have and which we need to express, we need to be loved and so we find a relationship that will result in us being loved. Our understanding of love may be different for different times in our lives, and so our need of being cared for, our need of touch, our need of understanding is all reflected in our need to be loved.
Not all relationships may meet this need to the same extent, but even our relationships in business or with strangers is linked to the need to be wanted, when we feel unwanted, we are rejected and react accordingly. The question then is what are the relationships that we have and in those relationships are our needs being met and if not why? Is it based on unreal expectations or is it that we cannot meet theirs?
In the same way we should be in relationship with Jesus Christ and just as much that we need to feel loved by Him, so He needs to feel loved by us.
Be encouraged today to be honest in your relationships and your need to be wanted and loved.
David
Point to ponder: Without love there is no relationship.
Question to consider: Do you honestly express your expectations in your relationships?
