Honour God

15 November 2010.

Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done; but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no work; it is a Sabbath to the LORD in all your dwellings.

As we begin to understand the nature of our lives we need to understand the need for our bodies to rest, our minds to rest and our emotions to rest. This must also include those who work for us, the fact that we may be able to take time off and do what we need to do, does not mean that we allow our staff to do the same. To stay open seven days a week is based on simple greed and about making money no matter what the human cost. Some businesses stay open on Sundays because their market is targeted on people who are at home, such as Nurseries. The reality is that the market for trade is not dependant on the shop being open, but by providing the goods for people to buy, if they need it they will buy it.

As Christians we expect to teach others about Christian life, by setting the example and allowing them to follow, so we give our staff a day off, not time off. Not because we are complying with a Law to increase our profits, but because this is what will please God. So Christian businesses close one day a week, if it is a hairdresser it is closed on Monday, and so on. Christians put their love of God before the love of money.

Be encouraged today to honour God, by honouring a Sabbath day.

David
