Goodbye Cleo

22 November 2010.

Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

How does one describe the pain of loss, the pain of the death of a young bulldog that has crept into every part of ones life? A dog that followed us and went wherever we went. In the morning going ahead into the Chapel when we went to pray, lying at my feet while I worked at my desk, under the table in the lounge, cooling herself on the cool kitchen floor. Yesterday, life was normal, today life is not.

On the way to Johannesburg there was a traffic hold up, and in the car with the air-conditioning on it was not enough to keep her cool and she overheated and trapped in the traffic she died despite all attempts to cool her down. She was born on 30 August 2009 and died on 21 November 2011; her life though short brought us joy and much love.

It is tragedy and the loss that we experience that we learn to appreciate what we have, we always have more questions than answers, and questions we may never have answers to. This does not stop us from loving and allowing ourselves to be loved, even though every memory is a stab in the heart. The God we worship loves us with a steadfast love, and His love for us will endure forever, even though we are hurting, He still loves us.

Be encouraged today to persevere, no matter the pain, the struggle and the loneliness that mourning brings.

Point to ponder: Love hurts.

Question to consider: Do you feel the pain of another’s loss?
