Stress

26 January 2012

Matthew 6:25-26 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Stress is something that takes us often by surprise, and because of that we seem not to recognise its source. Stress comes about because things happen for which we are not prepared, usually at the worst time, and often because we are afraid that we will not cope. We also have stress where we try our best and we are always afraid of criticism of those whom we are trying to please. No person lives a stress free life, but knowing the sources of the stress helps us to plan and understand.

We either allow the stress to control us, or we control the stress. To control the stress we use our faith, faith in Jesus Christ to help and guide us, faith in our ability no matter how good or bad, and the knowledge of past experience that helps us from repeating mistakes. Out of this we begin to cope and work through the triggers that cause the stress so that we do not allow the stress to cause anxiety and fear in our lives.

Be encouraged to look at the stress triggers in your life and allow your faith to overcome them.

David

Point to ponder: Bring Jesus into your stress.

Question to consider Do you allow stress to control you?
