Unbelief & doubt

23 January 2012

Romans 11:23 And even the others, if they do not persist in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again.

The child of idolatry is unbelief, so when we struggle with unbelief we are but idol worshippers. Many people accept that we all have moments of unbelief, we sometime also struggle with doubt. The consequence of this drawn to its logical conclusion will lead one to the rejection of the existence of God. This rejection starts with the seeds of unbelief leading to doubt and the application of human reason. This human reason views society with all the suffering, pain, greed and so on and asks the question if there is a God; how can a loving God allow this?

The counter to this is that God exists despite our unbelief or doubt, it starts with faith in God, leading to the belief of God, and that God is, therefore I am. A God that is love allows the free choice to love in return, and as a result of this free choice people choose to love money, power and self resulting in a broken and hurting society. This very society that God loves rejects the existence of God in the exercise of free choice.

God intervened in society to bring forgiveness, grace, mercy and reconciliation to Himself through Jesus Christ His Son, yet even this great gift is still rejected. Yet it through this Gift that we have hope for tomorrow, encouragement for today and peace with yesterday. You either believe God exists or you don’t, but what ever you believe cannot change the nature and presence of God.

Be encouraged to believe God.

David

Point to ponder: God exists.

Question to consider: Do you believe God’s promises?
