The Men for the Master inspection team ... that's our treasurer Samuel Ayeah on the far right.
Things got off to a hectic start on Sunday morning ... the Men for the Master meeting started off at 09h00, but the lads, your scribe included, drifted in a tad late to find the executive in full voice singing songs of praise. Our treasurer Samuel Ayeah led us in worship with this reading from Matthew's Gospel 7 7-12.
Mat 7:7 Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
Mat 7:8 For everyone who asks will receive, and anyone who seeks will find, and the door will be opened to those who knock.
Mat 7:9 Would any of you who are fathers give your son a stone when he asks for bread?
Mat 7:10 Or would you give him a snake when he asks for a fish?
Mat 7:11 As bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
Mat 7:12 "Do for others what you want them to do for you: this is the meaning of the Law of Moses and of the teachings of the prophets.
Where there are hungry parishioners there's opportunity to put fruit on the table ... our trusty vendors are always on hand to greet the faithful
Samuel unpacked the reading and it touched a chord with all those present, who identified with his straight forward statement of faith. "Ask, and you will receive."
Samuel said that the Lord knows what is in one's heart, but it is still vital that we continue to drive forward in faith. knowing that in the fullness of time one's prayers will be answered We must be steadfast in faith and commit our prayer to God and stage by stage and step by step these will be addressed.
He said that we must continue to work for the Lord. If we are job seekers, we must prepare for interviews and learn from our disappointments.
The men for the Master debated the reading and added James 5 16 as a closing relfection.
"James 5: 16 So then, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you will be healed. The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect."
On that note the Men for the Master got down to the worldly matters in hand:
Our chairman Giyani Matampi led the team around the church checking where most of the rubbish lay in the street. The men will meet on the 20th February for a clean up day to ensure that the streets bordering the church get properly cleaned, so the residents of Yeoville feel that their needs are being addressed. The clean up will be followed by an outreach barbecue to which all will be invited.
The other activities planned by the Men for the Master will be run via Session on the 13th February. But it's no secret that the men will be doing the flowers on the 14th February, which is Valentine's Day.
